Battler Claims Keno Win

The holder of a $278,187.20 Keno winning ticket is a drinker at the Welcome Stranger who has been a bit down on his luck.

Welcome Stranger manager Peter Scollard confirmed yesterday that the ticket had finally been claimed.

Mr Scollard said the winner, who did not wish to be identified, “couldn’t be a better bloke”.

“Needless to say he was very happy with the prize,” he said.

“He had actually been in on the Tuesday night and had the ticket in his wallet and decided to come in and check it on Monday and found out he had won.”

The Tasmanian Government will miss out on possibly claiming the prize and putting it into the state coffers.

Under existing regulations, all unclaimed winnings are pumped into treasury coffers.
